Hi,

this is not North Korea:

Encryp-xit: Europe will go all in for crypto backdoors in June
App-makers get a choice: Open up voluntarily or we'll pass laws forcing
you to

The European Commission will in June push for backdoor access to
encryption used by apps, according to EU Justice Commissioner Věra Jourová.

Another unenforcable law. They can't really reach WhatsApp who has no
presence in the EWU (Facebook is only shareholder), Signal is probably
too small to be bothered (and otherwise the EU can get the same
treatment as Egypt), and WA could also implement domain fronting if they
are blocked.

Hi,

just because a commissioner talks about proposing a law, it does not
magically become reality.

The commission is in the position to propose laws to the council and
parliament, but it needs their approval. And remember, decisions
concerning security, foreign affairs and other important business
require unanimity of all member states, which is very unlikely in this case.
