Hi guys,

since you launched the beta I'm sure you're interested in some feedback.
First of all, I like the desktop client a lot -- good job! So don't take
anything as a complaint, but as constructive ideas :)

Here's my list of possible improvements:
- possibility to disable/configure contents of notifications (I've
written a separate mail because IMHO that's really important for a
messenger that puts a focus on privacy)
- list of all contacts
- list of smileys/possibility to send smileys
- make smileys look as pretty as in the android version :)

All the best and a happy new year!

Thanks Marius. These features are already on the roadmap and and being
tracked on github.

Considering the Signal's main goals, I would be more interested in seeing a
feature similar to lockscreen, or 'Inactivity timeout passphrase' as
Android client already has, or even better passphrase + local content
encrption, so that unencrypted messages never touch the hard drive.

denis,

there's been said much about this in the past:

Thank you for the information. I was just thinking about android and how it
has passphrase/encryption, but now I know about reasons, and why it won't
happen, and will probably disappear on Android too.
I can understand developers have their priorities, and limited resources,
and I'm thankful and very glad that something like Signal exists.

Now something else croses my mind... How about 'private mode' similar to
what browsers have feature?
App wouldn't write anything to do the 'disk. So no saved conversations,
files, pictures whatever.
IMO much better than encryption. Mobile devices are security nightmares,
one of main and easiest targets for agencies, police etc. Encryption
doesn't help anyway when one uses a device, since everything is either
decrypted most of the time, or keys are more or less easely findable, in
case one gets the access.

Thanks a lot and sorry for bothering

Denis

Thanks for your replies. Especially great to see that you are already
planning to work on the notifications.

And I agree that as a second step a lockscreen + encryption would be a
good idea, though IMHO not as pressing as hiding the notifications,
since usually your Laptop should not be accessible to anyone while
you're not there, and full disk encryption is also easily available by
standard means.
