Hi there

I just wanted to ask, is there a technical reason for the size limit on
the attachements in TextSecure or is it just to keep send and receive
times low?

If you’re asking about the 300kb limits for video and audio, there are changes that will be released in 2.27.0 that lift those tiny limits. The original reasons were based around the constraints of MMS, and we needed to do some work on the client before we could bump those values up.

As of 2.27.0, you’ll be able to send GIFs up to 5MB, and audio/video up to 100MB.

is there a plan to also enable TS to send/receive non-specified type of files as attachments?

thanks,

I think that’d be a great feature. We’re focusing on a couple other things first though, so it’s not going to be implemented in the short-term since it’s a non-trivial amount of work.

Thanks for the quick answer. I suspected it had something todo with MMS
compatibility

If you’re asking about the 300kb limits for video and audio,
How about image resizing? If I sent a large image with 2.27.0, will it
still be scaled down to save storage space?

Yep, images are still resized for the fastest possible delivery/receiving and to lower memory consumption of the app.
