[whispersystems] TS crashes right after password input #2518

Hi,

I've the problem that TS crashes on startup right after the password input
on hitting "unlock" - both, keyboard and arrow key.
As Moxie pointed out on Github (#2518), using Airplane mode circumvents
the crash. But I cannot find any pending attachment that may cause the
crash. Thus, I cannot prevent TS from crashing again as soon as I
re-establish a network connection.

Do you have any idea how to
a) solve the problem/find the causing message?
b) whether exporting, reinstalling TS and importing all messages might help
c) whether this procedure will preserver all the attachments as well?

Best,
Steffen

Hi,

a plaintext export only exports the messages. You will loose your
attachments and also your keys.
I could imagine that it might help, as the messages are imported as plain
SMS afterwards.

You could create a backup using adb, then delete, reinstall, and import the
messages. If it helps and you are ok with loosing your keys, then its fine,
if not you can restore the backup with your old keys.

Cheers

If this backup exports the attachments as well, it is an option for me. Do
you have any information how to set this up using OSX?

Best, Steffen
